Haramaya University Staff Participated in Research Administration Workshop
Haramaya University (HU) staff members participated in a five-day Research Administration Workshop jointly organized by the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS) and the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa.
The workshop was held at the Hilton Hotel from September 22–26, 2025, under the initiative “Supporting the Transition of Ethiopia’s Public Universities to Autonomous Governance.” It brought together research leaders and administrators from ten public universities across Ethiopia to engage in capacity-building, collaborative work, and experience sharing.
Haramaya University was represented by: Dr. Yesihak Yusouf, Vice President for Research and Community Engagement, Dr. Dinaol Belina, Grant Management Capacity Building Coordinator and Dr. Ayalew Temesgen, Basic Science Research Theme Leader, and delegate of the Research Affairs Directorate
The workshop was led by distinguished international experts from the One Health Global Alliance (OHGA), U.S. universities, and Kenyan research institutions, and covered topics; Proposal development and budgeting, Grant submission and peer review processes, Pre- and post-award grant management, Legal and ethical considerations in research and Regulatory compliance and sub-award administration.
According to HU participants, the workshop enhanced their skills in grant management, ethical research conduct, regulatory compliance, and strategies for accessing international funding opportunities. They indicated that the knowledge and skills gained will be shared with colleagues at Haramaya University and applied to further strengthen the University’s research administration system.
Participants also expressed their appreciation to the organizers for facilitating site visits to the Centre for Drug Discovery and Therapeutic Innovations Africa (CDT Africa), and other networking activities aimed at fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange. They highlighted that the workshop will strengthen the University’s research administration and national and international collaborations.
