Speaking at the event, Dr. Yishak Yusuf, Vice President for Research and Community Development at Haramaya University, emphasized that the training was designed in response to a demand survey which highlighted the need for senior researchers to enhance their skills in preparing scientific publications. He noted that scientific writing requires advanced knowledge and continuous practice, underscoring the importance of regular training to empower researchers.

Dr. Yishak further explained that the initiative is part of the University’s broader strategy to increase the visibility and impact of its research outputs. He announced that Haramaya University is preparing an incentive system to reward researchers for their contributions, which will soon be implemented. “This system will motivate our researchers to produce high-quality publications and ensure their work benefits both the University and society,” he said.

Dr. Deribachew Bekana

Dr. Deribachew Bekana, Director of Research Affairs, highlighted that the trained researchers will now serve as trainers themselves, cascading the knowledge to additional colleagues and thereby expanding the impact of the program.

Reflecting on the training, Dr. Andarge Zelalem, one of the participants, acknowledged that while many research projects are conducted at Haramaya University, their publication rate has not met expectations. He noted that the training helped identify gaps in preparing scientific manuscripts and provided researchers with the skills needed to publish standard, high-quality research in the future.
