UNODC Delegation Pays Courtesy Visit to Haramaya University Free Legal Aid Service Centers
Haramaya University Free Legal Aid Service Program welcomed a high-level delegation from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) as part of ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and partnership strengthening efforts.

The delegation, led by Mr. Abraham Ayalew, UNODC Program Management Officer, and Mr. Ermias Kostre, Associate Program Management Officer at UNODC, paid a courtesy visit to the Universityβs Free Legal Aid Service Centers. The visit was conducted within the framework of the European Unionβfunded program supporting criminal justice reform in Ethiopia.

The primary objective of the visit was to reinforce collaboration, enhance institutional partnership, and explore ways to further strengthen support for the Free Legal Aid Service Program. During the visit, the UNODC team conducted on-site observations of the legal aid centers operating in Maya City, Eastern Hararghe Zone, and Harari Peoples National Regional State, where they engaged with staff and observed the practical delivery of legal services to the community.

The delegation was joined by the Haramaya University College of Law leadership and program team, including Dr. Richard J. Wentzell, Dean of the College of Law, and Mr. Chala Yuye Kemer, Program Coordinator of the Free Legal Aid Service Program.

Haramaya University highly values this continued partnership with UNODC and the European Union, which plays a significant role in advancing access to justice, strengthening legal empowerment, and supporting vulnerable communities across Eastern Ethiopia.
