The Ethiopian Physical Society in North America (EPSNA) Concludes Third Annual Virtual Summer School

The Ethiopian Physical Society in North America (EPSNA) has successfully concluded its third annual online summer physics training program, the EPSNA Virtual Summer School, held from August 11–15, 2025.

Third Annual Virtual Summer SchoolThe week long program connected leading physics experts from around the world with students and faculty members from eight Ethiopian universities: Haramaya, Addis Ababa, Bahir Dar, Hawassa, Arba Minch, Jimma, Mekelle, and Wollega.

The week long program connected leading physics expertsAt Haramaya University, the training took place at the institution’s Resource Center and featured a live session with representatives from EPSNA, the American Physical Society (APS), and the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs of Haramaya University.

Mrs. Bekelu AbebaMrs. Bekelu Abeba, Head of the Department of Physics at Haramaya University, noted that the training is designed to provide students and faculty with access to advanced academic opportunities while fostering the exchange of scientific knowledge and discoveries.

A total of 41 undergraduate and postgraduate students participated in the program, alongside Physics, Mathematics, Engineering faculty members from Haramaya, Dire Dawa, Oda Bultum, and Jigjiga Universities also participated on the program.

Dr. Muhammad Mammud of Dire Dawa University, Mr. Feyisa Sado of Jigjiga University, and Dr. Mohammed Kelif of Oda Bultum University commended the organizers, trainers, and EPSNA leadership for their dedication.

They also expressed gratitude to Haramaya University for its hospitality, emphasizing the value of learning from its experienced scholars.

Dr. Seleshi DemieIn his closing remarks, Dr. Seleshi Demie, Dean of the College of Natural and Computational Sciences at Haramaya University, extended thanks to the North American experts for their contributions to the successful training.
