The Ethiopian Agricultural Authority (EAA) and Haramaya University formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on May 28, 2025, solidifying a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing the standardization and evaluation of agrochemical product trials for registration in Ethiopia.

Dr. Wondale Habtamu, Deputy Director General for Plant Regulatory Affairs at the EAA, and Dr. Jemal Yousuf, President of Haramaya University, officially led the event.

Under the MoU, Haramaya University will leverage its network of agricultural research centers to support the rigorous evaluation of pesticide and fertilizer products.

The agreement underscores the university’s commitment to advancing scientifically robust and environmentally sound agrochemical registration systems in collaboration with the EAA.

In his remarks, Dr. Wondale Habtamu emphasized the shared commitment of regulatory bodies and higher education institutions to upholding scientific integrity, fostering regulatory harmonization, and applying evidence-based practices for sustainable agricultural advancement.

He also commended Haramaya University’s long-standing leadership in agricultural research, technology development, and human capacity building, acknowledging its substantial impact on Ethiopia’s agricultural transformation.
