Haramaya University’s 2023 Graduates Ready to Serve the Community

Candidate graduates from Haramaya University’s College of Health and Medical Sciences have completed various projects in five towns of the East Haraghe zone over the past two months.
Projects that were undertaken in Kombolcha town were officially inaugurated on December 24, 2023.

According to Ato Abdi  Birhanu, a coordinator of the Community-Based Education(CBE) Office the students participated in the Team Training Program (TTP) in East Hararghe, focusing on community-oriented practical education. The TTP demonstrated that significant work can be accomplished in a short period, with the minimum cost with the participation of the community.

This year, 213 graduating class students completed a six-week practical education program in Kombolcha, Deder, Karsa, and Qulubi towns, as well as Maya City Administration in Hararge East.

During their stay, the students provided medical services and education to the community, constructing clean drinking water facilities, a community pharmacy, and toilets. The value of these contributions is estimated at five million birr.

Candidate graduates Kemal Abdi and Nesredin Abdi worked on eight projects in Kombolcha District, including a community pharmacy, classrooms, and a first aid room, valued at two million one hundred thousand birr.

Dr. Jamal Jabir

Deputy Administrator of Kombolcha town, Dr. Jamal Jabir, praised the students for completing eight projects worth two million birr during their short stay. He highlighted the community pharmacy built in the district, which will save significant rental costs.

Chief Executive Director of Haramaya University College of Health and Medical Sciences, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed, emphasized that the students identified community problems and worked to solve them.

Mr. Ayele Swangzaw

Mr. Ayele Swangzaw, a representative of Haramaya University’s Directorate of Community Development, stated that the university provided 700,000 birr worth of materials to support the students’ work. He also pledged continued support for the development work done by health students.

Residents of Kombolcha town expressed their gratitude for the students’ efforts. Mrs. Hanan Fadil and Mr. Mohammedsule Adem praised the students for their close attention to societal problems and their tireless work in addressing them.
