Haramaya University Showcases Livestock Innovations at 10th Africa Livestock Exhibition & Congress

Haramaya University has participated in the 10th Africa Livestock Exhibition & Congress (ALEC) and Partners’ Meeting held in Addis Ababa from October 29 to November 01, 2025.

The University’s delegation, representing the School of Animal and Range Sciences, actively engaged in a series of high-profile events, presenting groundbreaking research outputs and innovations that underscore its leadership in livestock development.

The event was organized by the SNV-BRIDGE+ Project, in collaboration with Wageningen University & Research and Prana Events. This multi-day program featured several components, including: a Partners’ Meeting and Scientific Discussion focused on enhancing productivity in Ethiopia’s dairy sector, the 10th Africa Livestock Exhibition & Congress (ALEC), the 14th Ethio Poultry Expo (ETHIOPEX), and the National Feed and Fodder Forum, themed “The Way Forward for Ethiopia’s Commercial Livestock Feed and Fodder Production.”. Additionally, the event featured panel discussions, interactive dialogues, case presentations, and networking sessions.

The events brought together international participants from the Netherlands, China, Brazil, and Pakistan, as well as regional representatives from Kenya. Key national stakeholders included private-sector members, technology developers, and experts in breed improvement. Academic and research institutions, such as Haramaya, Arsi, Bahir Dar, Hawassa, Mekelle, Debre Berhan, and Gondar Universities, along with the Ethiopian Agricultural Research Institute (EIAR), also participated by sharing their latest research findings and innovations.

According to Dr. Sileshi Gadissa, a researcher for the SNV-BRIDGE+ Project, Haramaya University competed with Bahir Dar, Hawassa, and Mekelle Universities to secure an exhibition booth as a strategic partner. Following a thorough evaluation, Haramaya University was selected to present its innovations at the Millennium Hall. They displayed materials that highlighted their contributions to livestock research and technology.

Dr. Sileshi Gadissa and Dr. Biazen Abrar, Head of the School of Animal and Range Sciences at Haramaya University, represented the institution and showcased a variety of innovations. These included the Multi-Power Homemade Poultry Egg Incubator, cheese and yogurt products made from cow and camel milk, a roll-up banner featuring the rehabilitated Haramaya Lake, advanced Dairy Technology Laboratory equipment, and the University’s five accredited scientific journals.

Dr. Biazen Abrar, Head of the School of Animal and Range Sciences at Haramaya University, stated that through its dynamic presence and collaborative spirit, Haramaya University is reaffirming its commitment to driving innovation, facilitating knowledge exchange, and promoting sustainable transformation in Ethiopia’s livestock sector.
