Haramaya University Senate Approves Graduations, Staff Promotions, and Curricula
On March 17, 2026, the Senate of Haramaya University held its second meeting of the academic year in the Senate Hall to discuss several important academic and administrative matters.

The meeting focused on several initiatives for the academic year, including the approval of graduations, the promotion of academic staff, and the revision of curricula. These key activities aim to enhance the university’s educational framework and support the ongoing development of our academic community.


During this meeting, the Senate approved the graduation of 1,122 candidates across various levels of study. This included 31 PhD, 287 Master’s, 6 Medical Specialists, 744 Bachelor’s, 53 Higher Diplomas in Teaching, and 1 Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching.

In line with the new promotion directive, the Senate endorsed the promotion of two academic staff members: Dr. Abdisa Jabesa from the Haramaya Institute of Technology and Dr. Maleda Tefera from the College of Health and Medical Sciences, both promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.
The Senate has approved one revised PhD curriculum, ten revised Master’s curricula, and one new PhD curriculum. This approval is a significant step in enhancing the university’s academic and research capacity, while also ensuring the relevance and quality of teaching and research. Additionally, these changes contribute to the university’s designation as a research institution.
Beyond these major decisions, the Senate also discussed and approved several other initiatives aimed at improving the university’s academic performance, research endeavors, and community engagement. The outcomes of this meeting underscore Haramaya University’s ongoing efforts to maintain its status as one of Ethiopia’s leading research and higher education institutions.
