Haramaya University Participated in ANH Academy Regional Collaboratives Proposal Development Writeshop Organized by RUFORUM in Entebbe, Uganda

Haramaya University participated in a regional proposal development writeshop organized by the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) in collaboration with IUCEA from 6th to 12th April 2025 in Entebbe, Uganda. The Request for Proposals (RFPs) on “Regional Collaboratives” was launched by the Agriculture, Nutrition and Health (ANH) Academy led by London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). The writeshop was aimed at   enhancing resource mobilisation for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), leveraging partnerships and skills to build a robust resourcing portfolio. Haramaya University was represented by Dr. Mulugeta D. Watabaji (Africa Center of Excellence for Climate Smart Agriculture and Biodiversity Conservation – ACE Climate SABC) and Dr. Muluken G. Wordofa (CSAS Focal Person).

A total of four teams of researchers from Africa attended the writeshop, and developed their respective proposals for submission to the ANH Academy. Haramaya University was part of the Makerere University-led consortium that includes Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural

Resources (LUANAR) and the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC). Consistent with the broader aim of the ANH Academy (i.e., accelerating actions towards equitable and just food systems for nutrition and health, whilst confronting climate change and protecting nature, through interdisciplinary research, capacity sharing and collaboration), this proposal focuses on: 1) research and evidence landscapes – strengthening the evidence base on what works, for what, and for whom; 2) knowledge translation and policy uptake – facilitating use of evidence for policy change at national, regional and global levels; and 3) global science capability and collaboration – strengthening global science capability and collaboration by catalysing learning and sharing through the ANH Academy Network. The proposal developed by this team was successfully submitted to the ANH Academy, and is currently under review.
