Haramaya University in collaboration with Fatuma Foundation and Kenna for Kids, Donates 42 Wheelchairs in Kombolcha, East Hararghe Zone
On July 23, 2025, as part of its Summer Social Service Program, Haramaya University together with Fatuma Foundation and Kenna for Kids donated 42 ergonomic wheelchairs to individuals with disabilities in Kombolcha District, East Hararghe Zone.
Mr. Asad Fahmi, a staff member of Haramaya University and coordinator of the donation initiative, emphasized that the support aimed to promote educational access and social inclusion by improving mobility for individuals who would otherwise be confined to their homes.
Mr. Anil Yusuf, representing Fatuma Foundation, stated that the beneficiaries were carefully selected from both rural and urban communities in Kombolcha based on identified urgent needs. The donation is expected to significantly enhance the recipients’ ability to attend school, participate in economic activities and lead more independent lives.
Community and religious leaders present at the event praised the initiative as a compassionate and commendable act, reflecting a strong sense of collective responsibility and solidarity.
The recipients expressed their heartfelt gratitude, noting that the wheelchairs would transform their lives by allowing them greater freedom, access to education and the opportunity to engage fully in community life.
This initiative highlights another milestone in Haramaya University’s continued commitment to community engagement and its collaborative efforts with national and international partners to drive meaningful social impact.
