Haramaya University Delegates Participate in UNITAFRICA One Health Training at Kenyatta University

Haramaya University proudly took part in the UNITAFRICA training program held from January 26–30, 2026, at the Kenyatta University Conference Center (KUCC) in Nairobi, Kenya. The week‑long program, titled “Poverty, Food and Health: A One Health Vision,” brought together experts, scholars, and young professionals from across Africa and Italy to foster collaborative learning in the fields of health, agriculture, nutrition, and development. Representing Haramaya University was a distinguished three‑member delegation: Dr. Kedir Jemal, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences; Mr. Mohammed Ahmed, Head of the School of Rural Development and Agricultural Innovation; and Dr. Titay Zeleke, a member of the same school.

UNITAFRICA One Health Training

The UNITAFRICA training program provided an intensive week of learning, collaboration, and innovation. Sessions included poverty and development, food security, nutrition and human health, and global health. Throughout the week, participants also engaged in group work, which culminated in presentations, certificate awards, and a final wrap‑up session.

The engagement of Dr. Kedir, Mr. Mohammed, and Dr. Titay underscored Haramaya University’s leadership in strengthening One Health capacities across its academic and research programs. Their participation further contributed to enhancing the University’s international partnerships, particularly with the University of Pavia and Kenyatta University. It also supported efforts to advance research and innovation in areas such as agricultural development, rural transformation, health, and nutrition, while preparing future professionals to tackle the interconnected global challenges facing communities today. The insights and networks gained through their involvement will enrich teaching, research, and policy outreach efforts at Haramaya University.

Participation in initiatives such as UNITAFRICA is a significant step in fostering high‑impact partnerships. The knowledge and skills acquired by the delegation will contribute to advancing sustainable development, strengthening food systems resilience, supporting rural innovation, and promoting public health in Ethiopia and beyond.
