Haramaya University Delegates Participate in High-Level Workshop on Endowment Fund Management and Alumni Engagement

Haramaya University delegates participated in a high-level three-day workshop on Endowment Fund Management and Alumni Engagement held from December 3–5, 2025, at the Hilton Hotel in Addis Ababa. The University was represented by Dr. Adinew Tadesse, Director of the Autonomy Office; Dr. Deribachew Bekana, Endowment Task Force Chair; and Mr. Frezer Tilahun, Alumni Engagement Associate Director.

The workshop was jointly organized by the U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia, the Ministry of Education (MoE), and the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS) as part of the ongoing national initiative supporting Ethiopian public universities in their transition toward autonomous governance. The program is part of a wider series of capacity-building trainings covering policy development, educational leadership, alumni engagement, research administration, and grant management.

This particular workshop focused on: strengthening university endowment systems, enhancing alumni relations and engagement, and improving financial sustainability strategies within higher education institutions. The workshop was facilitated by two distinguished Fulbright Specialists: Dr. Ty Ropp, Vice President of Development at Oklahoma State University, and Dr. Walter McCollum, President & Chair of the Fulbright Association National Board of Directors.

Haramaya University’s participation in the workshop underscores its strong commitment to building institutional capacity in endowment management, alumni mobilization, and readiness for full institutional autonomy.
