Haramaya University College of Law Shines on the Global Stage, Advocating for Children’s Rights
Haramaya University College of Law made a strong showing at the 2025 Children’s Rights Moot Court Competition, a prestigious event co-organized by the international law firm Baker McKenzie and Leiden Law School in the Netherlands.
A dedicated team of bright legal minds – Ms. Bemnet Nega, Mr. Bikila Girmaye, Ms. Asma Mohammed, and Mr. Boru Kalicha – represented the College of Law under the expert guidance of their Lecturer of Law, Mr. Chala Yuye.
The competition’s online rounds provided a vibrant forum for these emerging advocates to grapple with intricate legal arguments concerning the rights and protections of children under international law. Their selection for the oral rounds was earned through the prior submission of compelling written memorials.
Dr. Richard Wentizel, Dean of the Haramaya University College of Law, lauded the team’s performance, stating that they demonstrated both sharp legal acumen and powerful advocacy skills throughout the competition. He further emphasized the global significance of the Children’s Rights Moot in cultivating awareness and a deeper understanding of children’s rights and the crucial role of law in their protection.
“The College of Law is, as always, immensely proud of our students’ performance in this esteemed international competition,” affirmed Dr. Wentizel. He highlighted that the continuous national and international recognition of Haramaya University’s high-quality legal education programs is a direct result of the dedication and engagement of its student.
