The Haramaya University College of Law has once again demonstrated its academic prowess by participating in the 2024 Africa Regional Round of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) International Arbitration Moot Court Competition.

A team of three students, led by Mr. Esayas Serbesa, Ms. Ruth Samuel, and Mr. Ahmed Kemal, under the guidance of Lecturer Mr. Zekeria Abda, represented Ethiopia in the prestigious competition. The virtual event, held from August 23-24, 2024, saw participation from 11 African countries.

The FDI Moot is renowned for its focus on investor-state arbitration, a crucial aspect of international law. The competition provides students with a practical understanding of the complex issues involved in this field, including balancing domestic and international interests, and ensuring transparency and predictability in investment regulations.

Dr. Ricard Wentzel, Dean of the College of Law, expressed his pride in the team’s achievement. “This participation is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students and faculty,” he said. “It is a significant milestone for our college and a reflection of our commitment to fostering excellence in legal education.”
