Haramaya University and OGF University in Somaliland have officially launched a new academic partnership.
This collaboration, which began with preliminary discussions in Hargeysa, Somaliland, in April 2025, was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on July 25, 2025, at Haramaya University.
The partnership agreement was signed by Professor Mengistu Urge, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Haramaya University, and Dr. Mohamed Guudle, President and Vice Chancellor of OGF University.
The agreement outlines a comprehensive framework for cooperation in several important areas, including: developing and implementing joint degree programs at both the undergraduate (BSc) and graduate levels; facilitating the exchange of academic resources and expertise between the two institutions; creating opportunities for staff and student exchanges; collaborating on joint research projects; and partnering on community service and outreach activities.
This strategic alliance is designed to foster mutual growth, enhance academic excellence, and contribute to regional development across Eastern Africa. The partnership also enables OGF University to officially begin admissions in Hargeisa, Somaliland, leveraging the collaborative framework established with Haramaya University.
This milestone reflects the commitment of both universities to advancing the quality of higher education, encouraging innovation, and supporting socio-economic progress in the region. By combining their strengths and resources, the institutions aim to create new opportunities for students and faculty while addressing the needs of their communities.
