Discussions held in Addis Ababa between Dr. Jemal Yousuf, President of Haramaya University, and Dr. Edna Adan, President of Edna Adan University, Somaliland and centered on “reaching the unreachable” through joint efforts in agriculture, maternal and child health, and education.

A key outcome of this partnership is the establishment of two joint cross-border master’s programs: an MSc in Midwifery and an MSc in Nursing, to be offered at Edna Adan University. This initiative directly addresses existing knowledge and skill gaps within the nursing and midwifery professions, promising to enhance healthcare delivery in the region.

Beyond academic programs, the collaboration has already seen staff members from Edna Adan University receive valuable clinical and practice-based training at Haramaya University’s College of Health and Medical Sciences and Hiwot Fana Comprehensive Specialized University Hospital.

According to Mr. Mohammed Yuya, coordinator for Haramaya University’s partnership with Somaliland universities, both institutions are committed to continuing current programs and launching additional joint initiatives at various levels. They also plan to undertake diverse problem-solving projects that will benefit both countries.

The presidents of both universities expressed their strong interest and commitment to scaling up and fostering this partnership. This collaboration is expected to significantly contribute to Haramaya University’s vision of becoming a leading institution in the Horn of Africa through the internationalization of its academic programs and partnerships.
