Haramaya University’s College of Agriculture and Environmental Science, in partnership with the Ethiopia-Netherlands Seed Partnership Project (ENSP), successfully conducted a curriculum validation workshop for the MSc Program in Seed Science and Technology on August 31, 2024.

Mr. Erena Kebede, Head of the School of Plant Sciences at CAES, highlighted the program’s significance as a cornerstone of academic excellence since its inception in 2008/2009. Over the years, the program has produced over 60 skilled graduates who have made substantial contributions to Ethiopia’s seed industry and agricultural sector.

The introduction of two new specializations within the MSc program, Seed Management and Quality Control, and Seed Business, marks a significant milestone in the program’s evolution. These specializations reflect the University’s commitment to producing versatile professionals who can meet the diverse needs of the seed industry and agriculture.

As a leading School within HU’s College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, the School of Plant Sciences aims to maintain its position at the forefront of agricultural education and research in Ethiopia. By establishing strong collaborations with national and international institutions, enhancing research capabilities, and nurturing the next generation of agricultural leaders, the School seeks to expand its impact.

The curriculum revision and validation process are essential for ensuring the program’s continued excellence. With the support of ENSP, the School aims to refine the curriculum through innovative teaching, cutting-edge research, and strong partnerships with industry and sector partners.

The workshop was attended by external examiners from Wageningen Research Ethiopia (SWR Ethiopia), the Director of the Technology Multiplication and Seed Research Directorate at the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research, and members of the Haramaya University academic community.
