Haramaya University Secures Two Patents in Construction Technology from the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Authority
Haramaya University is proud to announce that it has successfully secured two patents, “A Block-Making Machine and A Dual-Operated Block-Making Machine” from the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Authority (EIPA).

This significant achievement reflects the University’s commitment to research excellence, innovation, and technology-driven development.
The Ethiopian Intellectual Property Authority has also acknowledged Haramaya University’s active engagement and valuable contributions in advancing intellectual property development and fostering a culture of innovation.
These patented technologies are expected to play a vital role in addressing practical challenges in the construction sector by offering efficient, cost-effective, and locally adaptable solutions. HU’s Entrepreneurship and Technology Incubation Directorate Director Mrs. Kidesena Sebsebie explained that such achievements enhance the University’s capacity to commercialize research outputs, strengthen university-industry linkages, and create opportunities for job creation and enterprise development. By transforming innovative ideas into marketable products, Haramaya University continues to contribute meaningfully to Ethiopia’s industrialization and economic growth. Mrs. Kidesena added.
She also highlighted that these technologies have the potential to enterprises to promote sustainable construction practices, and reduce dependency on imported technologies, thereby contributing to national self-reliance. Furthermore, the Directorate invites industries, investors, and development partners to collaborate with the University in scaling up and commercializing these technologies.
