Haramaya University Hosts Orientation Session on Study Opportunities at the University of Parma
Haramaya University (HU) held an orientation session on study opportunities at the University of Parma, Italy, one of Europe’s historic and research-intensive institutions.
The event, held on 2 April 2026 at HU’s Resource Center, drew remarkable interest, with more than 1,400 online registrants, and was delivered in two rounds to accommodate demand.

The program builds on a growing partnership initiated at the UNITAFRICA project’s closing meeting in Bari, Italy, where HU President Dr. Jemal Yousuf Hassen and UNITAFRICA Coordinator Dr. Muluken G. Wordofa engaged in strategic discussions with representatives of the University of Parma, including Prof. Roberto Valentino. Following this engagement, Prof. Simone Baglioni, Vice Rector for Education, and Prof. Valentino, Rector’s Delegate for Relations with Africa & Director of the University Center for International Cooperation, visited HU to explore collaboration pathways.

Prof. Mengistu Urge, Haramaya University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, commended the impressive turnout and reiterated HU’s dedication to advancing international partnerships that enhance academic quality and global exposure.

Prof. Augustine Sesay, Director of the International Student Affairs Directorate, officially opened the session, emphasizing the value of global exposure and HU’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships.
The University of Parma Vice Rector for Education, Prof. Simone Baglioni in his address, commended HU’s academic vibrancy and encouraged students to pursue study opportunities in Italy, highlighting Parma’s dedication to inclusive and globally connected education.
Prof. Roberto Valentino presented an overview of the University of Parma’s international programs, including English-taught degrees, student support systems, and its diverse academic community. Both reaffirmed the University of Parma’s commitment to long-term cooperation with HU.

Participants actively engaged with questions on admissions, fees, scholarships, academic pathways, cultural integration, and post-study mobility. Comprehensive information was provided on English-taught programs, the Foundation Year Program, scholarship and tuition-reduction options, and Erasmus+ mobility opportunities.

HU and the University of Parma are preparing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will formalize cooperation in student and staff mobility, joint academic programs, collaborative research, and institutional capacity building. The visit of the University of Parma delegation and HU’s strong leadership engagement marks a significant step toward a deeper academic partnership that promises long-lasting benefits for the HU community.
