Haramaya University Graduates 616 Health Professionals
The President of the Harari Regional State, Mr. Ordin Bedri, stated that health professionals play a significant role in national development and must fulfill their national responsibilities to build a better future for the next generation.
The President emphasized the importance of a knowledgeable generation for Ethiopia’s development, highlighting the crucial role of health professionals in driving the country’s prosperity.


During his keynote address at the graduation ceremony on March 22, 2026, President Ordin urged the new cohort of health professionals to uphold their professional oaths and serve the public with unwavering integrity.


The ceremony celebrated the graduation of 616 students who completed their studies in various fields, including PhDs, medical specialties, master’s, and bachelor’s degrees.


The guest of honor at the graduation ceremony, President Ordin, emphasized that health professionals are the foundation of the nation’s path towards peace and prosperity. He reminded the graduates of their primary duty: to provide medical services without discrimination.


“The government is striving to produce a constructive and brighter generation grounded in reason and knowledge,” the President stated. He encouraged the graduates to look beyond traditional employment, noting that while the government continues to create jobs, the health sector presents vast, untapped opportunities for entrepreneurship and innovation. He urged them to leverage their practical training to establish their own professional ventures.


Dr. Jemal Yousuf, President of Haramaya University, spoke about the institution’s growing international influence, noting that the university is actively addressing health-related challenges through strong partnerships with global universities and research institutions.
“Haramaya University is committed to fulfilling its responsibility by producing highly competent and qualified individuals to meet the demands of the job market,” said Dr. Jemal. He added that by expanding its research and community service capabilities in collaboration with international institutions, the university has become a hub for developing world-renowned experts. Dr. Jemal encouraged the new graduates to follow in the footsteps of their predecessors and to fulfill their civic duties in order to achieve Ethiopia’s development goals.
During the ceremony, Professor Mengistu Urge, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, announced that over 92% of students from the College of Health and Medical Sciences passed the national exit examination successfully.
Dr. Ahmed Mohammed, Chief Executive Director of the College of Health and Medical Sciences, stated that the college’s impact extends beyond national borders. He noted that the institution is actively contributing to regional integration by training health professionals from across East Africa.
The event also honored exceptional graduate Tsion Bizuneh, who achieved the highest academic ranking of the year with a cumulative GPA of 3.97 and scored 90% on the national exit exam. For her remarkable performance, she received three awards during the occasion.
