Haramaya University Empowers Staff through AI-Enhanced Project Management Training

Haramaya University (HU) successfully concluded an intensive three-day training program on AI-Enhanced Project Management, held from December 17 to 19.

The initiative was designed to equip university staff with the digital competencies required to drive institutional efficiency and modern administrative practices.

The program was a collaborative effort between the Department of Information Systems, the College of Computing and Informatics, and the Office of the Academic Vice President.

Its primary objective was to bridge the gap between traditional project management and emerging technologies, focusing on integrating AI tools into planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation.

Dr. Kasahun Takale, Dean of the College of Computing and Informatics, emphasized the necessity of digital transformation in higher education. “Continuous professional development in emerging technologies is no longer optional,” Dr. Kasahun stated. “By adopting these AI-driven practices, our staff can ensure higher levels of accountability and efficiency in every project the university undertakes.”

The trainer Gadissa Dagne highlighted the practical impact of the curriculum, noting that foundational AI skills are now essential for data-driven decision-making and streamlined coordination.

Following the high level of engagement and positive feedback from participants, the organizers announced that a second round of training is being planned to accommodate the demand from other staff members across the university.
