Haramaya University is proud to announce a remarkable leap in its national standing for the e-SHE (e-Skills for Higher Education) digital literacy program, with over 7,934 students now certified—bringing the university’s completion rate to 70.3%.

This achievement places Haramaya University among the top-performing institutions in the country, surpassing more than 25 other universities including Jimma University. Just two weeks ago, Haramaya ranked 47th nationally with a modest 3.3% certification rate. Thanks to the tireless coordination between college deans, department heads, the ICT Directorate, and student leaders, the university has now climbed to an estimated 21st position.
Dr. Jemal, University President, expressed his gratitude to all academic units:
“This milestone reflects the collective spirit of Haramaya. We are not only closing gaps in digital skills but setting a benchmark for institutional collaboration and rapid transformation.”
The university remains focused on pushing toward its next targets. With only 526 additional certified students required to surpass Addis Ababa University (75%), and about 2,100 needed to reach the national Top 10 (89%), Haramaya is mobilizing final efforts through targeted sessions, department-level follow-ups, and digital awareness campaigns.
Upcoming sessions are planned for the Colleges of Health Sciences, Agriculture, Law, and remaining third-year and above students from CCI. The ICT Directorate has committed to providing weekly updates and individualized department reports to ensure inclusivity and transparency.
The e-SHE program, initiated in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, equips students with critical skills in navigating institutional LMS platforms, managing digital content, and engaging in 21st-century academic environments.
Haramaya University is well on its way to setting a national example in digital training and student readiness.
