Gender, HIV/AIDS and Special Needs Affairs Mainstreaming Directorate has been jointly working with the University’s communities and students to mitigate the spread of HIV/AIDS, SRH problems and other sexually transmitted diseases by creating awareness to target groups through cascading  program sessions throughout the year.

In line with this, the University’s HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Coordinating Office commemorated the World AIDS day, to raise awareness about HIV/ AIDS. This year, the Directorate in collaboration with Family Guidance Association of Ethiopian Eastern Region Office and HIV/AIDS clubs commemorated World AIDS day, in the presence of invited guests and members of different HIV/AIDS clubs and organizationson December 11, 2016in the Main Campus’ parking lot.

Mr. Yidnekachew Tefera, the Directorate’s HIV/AIDS Reproductive Health Program Coordinator, welcomed the guests and gave a briefing about the occasion. The day’s Guest of Honor, Mr. Mesfin Asefa, Family Guidance Association of Ethiopian Eastern Region Office Manager and Co-chief Executive, made an opening speech. Mr. Mesfin, in his speech, noted that there is bright future in the reduction of HIV/AIDS, and made a plea to all concerned bodies to work as hand and glove in order to eradicate HIV/AIDS from the face of the Earth.

The half day commemoration was marked with varieties of activities under the theme “No one should die because of HIV/AIDS and related deaths and zero discrimination” and “Hands UP for HIV Prevention”. Poems, cultural and modern dances and musical performances were presented to the audience in attendance.
