Haramaya University (HU) has hosted the 4th CASCAPE National Annual Review and Planning Workshop from February 09-14, 2015 at Samrat Hotel in Dire Dawa.

In an opening speech, Dr. Girma Amante, president of HU, stressed the fact that the workshop is devoted to pay particular focus on review and share best experiences of the previous four years’
achievements, lessons and challenges in order to enhance GDP of the country and change the
lives of the local people.

The objective of the workshop was to present and discuss the 2014 results and present the 2015 work plans as well as focus on how to finalize the first phase of CASCAPE project especially on scaling up pilots and capacity building as well as stakeholders’ engagement and consultation.

Discussion was then conducted on various issues and the event was wrapped up the workshop raising constructive ideas which are vital for the strength of the project.

Capacity building for scaling up of evidence-based best practices in agricultural production in Ethiopia (CASCAPE) is a collaborative project among six Ethiopian universities Wageningen University and Research Center. Including Addis Ababa University, the projects are implemented in five regional research institutes. These are in Tigray Regional State at Mekele University; in Amhara Regional State at Bahir Dar University; in Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regional State at Hawassa University; and in Oromia Regional state at Jimma and Haramaya universities. CASCAPE is financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Netherlands. The 5th CASCAPE Annual National Review and Planning Workshop will be held next year in Bahar Dar and is expected to be hosted by Bahir Dar University.
