Haramaya University has graduated students in different fields of studies on July 14, 2018 in a colorful ceremony held at the university’s Afren Kello hall in the morning and afternoon shifts.

The ceremony was held in the presence of distinguished guests and families of the graduates. Of the total graduates, 43 of them were PhD graduates, 810 were Masters, 1178 in Postgraduate Diploma and Certificate and 6121 in First degree. Among the total graduates 24.64 % were female students.

Prof. Nigussie Dechassa, Vice President for Academic Affairs of the university, while addressing an opening remark, has welcomed the invited guests and families of the graduates. Prof. Nigussie has also conveyed his best wishes to the graduating students.

Delegated President, Vice-President for Research Affairs of Haramaya University, Dr. Jemal Yesuf , has welcomed W/O Teyiba Hassen , Vice President of Oromia National Regional State and Ato Sileshi Getahun, Chair person of the Administrative Board.

Dr. Jemal has congratulated the graduates on their special achievements. He has also welcomed and congratulated parents, teachers and families of the graduates for being able to see their children and students achievements.

Dr. Jemal has also made a comprehensive speech about the university’s academic, research and community service activities performed for 6 decades. He has also conveyed a message to the graduate students on how they would become successful in their future career.

Guest of Honour of the ceremony, W/O Teyba Hassen, Vice President of Oromia National Regional State has congratulated the graduates, parents and teachers.

Speaking on the occasion, she said, “As it is known, education plays prominent roles in creating and shaping democratic and responsible citizens”. She has also emphasized that education is a key to achieve the aspiration for the overall development of the country.

Bedada Girma, President of Haramaya University Students’ Union has expressed his best wishes on the success of this year’s graduates. In his speech, Bedada said,  “Hardworking is not over when you are graduated, it is just a break as you enter the new battle fields of life.”

During the ceremony, honorable Doctoral degrees were given to Ato Gedu Andargachew, President of the Amhara National Regional State and to a prominent journalist Obbo Mohammed Ahmed (Mohammed Kophee).

Eventually, the ceremony was on air on the University’s community radio, HU FM 91.5.
