Delegates from Haramaya University in Jigjiga town handed over food items that cost 500,000 birr to Executive Director of the Somali Region Development Association on February 26, 2022 for those affected by the drought in the Somali region.

Dr. Admasu Bogale, Representative of Haramaya University and Director of the University’s Community Development Works Directorate, said on the occasion that six trucks of animal fodder was donated last week in response to the call by the Somali Regional Development Association. He, further, explained that they had brought food items worth 500000 (five hundred thousand birr). The items include 200 packs (cartons) of spaghettis, 200 bags of rice, and 200 cans (five liters each) of cooking oil.

Dr. Admasu added that Haramaya University has so far donated human and animal foods worth one million birr to the people affected by the drought in the Somali region.

When Mr. Kebdid Abdi, Executive Director of the Somali Region Development Association, received the support from the Haramaya University delegates; he thanked Haramaya University on behalf of the people of the Somali region.

Mr. Kebdid added that, due to the severe drought in the region, many of their animals and pastoral people are facing acute food shortages and this aid can alleviate the hunger of many of their people. In addition, Mr. Kebed called on the entire Ethiopian people to support them as most of their pastoralists and their animals in the region are vulnerable to further malnutrition.

Finally, Mr. Kebdid appreciated long lasted relationship between Haramaya University and the people of the Somali regional state in the field of Education and wished this long-lasting relationship should continue in the future.
