Haramaya University announced that it is ready to launch 16 new postgradaute programs.

The University disclosed that it signed an agreement with two universities in Somaliland to launch additional postgraduate programs.

Prof. Mengistu Urge, Vice President of Academic Affairs of the University, said the Haramaya University is working to expand and launch postgraduate programs in the country and in neighboring countries.

Haramaya University is currently among the distinguished research universities in Ethiopia and has been commissioned to focus on research activities, according to Prof. Mengistu.

He added that the University is working hard to achieve these goals by expanding more than 200 postgraduate programs over the next ten years to create an efficient and competent educated workforce.

After a rigorous review process,15 new MSc postgraduate and 1 PhD postgraduate programs were approved by the University Board few days ago.

Students are expected to be enrolled in the field of education starting from next September after the University gets approval from the Ministry of Education.

Haramaya University has currently enrolled 108 MSc postgraduate and 33 PhD postgraduate students in a total of 141 postgraduate programs and 74 undergraduate programs.

According to Prof. Mengistu, Haramaya University will start teaching in 9 MSc, 1 PhD and 3 specialist programs in the coming weeks of this academic year in collaboration with AMOD and Horn International Universities in Somaliland.

Out of the16 new postgraduate programs, 12 of the master’s degree programs are medical sciences, which are expected to contribute significantly to the improvement of the health sector and the remaining two are in the financial sector.

In general, 123 second degree programs will be available next September, including these new graduate programs and 34 undergraduate programs and other postgraduate programs are in the pipeline, it was announced.
