In partnership with the United Arab Emirates University, Haramaya University is implementing projects that aim at ensuring women empowerment and agricultural sustainability. The projects focus on climate change and the application of artificial intelligence in agricultural research. During the event, Dr. Jemal Yousuf, president of Haramaya University, received a glorious recognition for his university’s longstanding and unyielding commitment to partnership. At the occasion, Dr. Jemal made a speech. In his speech, he appreciated the practical usefulness of the current collaboration and also emphasized the fact that his university has longstanding experiences and success records of efficient and loyal implementation of partnerships. The president mentioned also the names of the multiple universities and other development organizations across the world with which Haramaya University has networked and partnered.

During the symposium, Mr. Mohammed Aman, Assistant Professor and Doctoral Candidate at the University of Greenwich, also presented a concept paper on “Agricultural Sustainability and Climate Actions: Experience from Ethiopia and the Role of Haramaya University”. Mr. Mohammed’s presentation accentuated, among others, the positive impacts of H.E. Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed’s environmentally conscious leadership in general and his Green Legacy Initiative in particular for battling challenges associated with climate change and building a green and climate-resilient economy.
