A College of Law moot court team consisting of 4th year LL.B students has been selected to participate in the oral rounds of the 2024 Ethiopian National Moot Court Competition to be held at the Assosa University School of Law from March 28-31 2024.

The competition is being held in partnership with the FDRE Justice and Law Institute. The selection process for the oral rounds was based on the submission of written memorials, which consisted of about 30 total pages. Out of the 31 law schools that submitted their memorials, only 12 have been invited to the oral rounds. This is a remarkable accomplishment and cause for celebration.

The general topic of the 2024 Moot is the right to direct access to the sea for landlocked countries. The memorial competition was highly intense and the oral rounds will be the culmination of one of the most prestigious annual law school events in the country.

The dean of the College of Law at HU, Dr. Richard Gentzzel, has stated that students have put a lot of effort and dedication into researching and writing their memorials. They are now excited to test their legal skills against other top law students in the country during the oral arguments in Assosa. Each team will have a total of 80 minutes to present their arguments to the tribunal in each round. The written memorial submissions and oral arguments are designed to assess the legal writing, research, and oral advocacy skills of the students.

The team is advised by Mr. Fufa Birhanu Kabata, Assistant Lecturer of Law. The team is comprised of LL.B students: Abdurazak Nebi Sado, Solome Dejene Beyene, and Sara Bahiru Tullu, all in their fourth year.

The College of Law is delighted to announce the continued success of its students and wishes them all the best in the upcoming competition. The College of Law also extends its sincere appreciation to the Haramaya University management for their unwavering support of its moot court programs and other experiential learning opportunities.
