Mission

Working with internal and external stakeholders in facilitating, coordinating, evaluating the seven key strategic activities and conducting consultative workshops for further improvement of the teaching-learning activities, performance of academic staffs and learners’ performances to increase the annual employability rates of the graduates.

Vision

The vision of CDSDD is to produce graduates who are most preferred and competent in the labor market among the higher education in Ethiopia.

Brief Description and key Strategic Activities of Career Development Services and Deliverology Directorate (CDSDD)

Haramaya University Career Development Services and Deliverology Directorate (CDSDD) was established in 2010 as Deliverology Unit. Its purpose was to facilitate and coordinate the seven Deliverology Strategic plans to improve the employability rates of annually graduated regular undergraduate programs. The current office name, Career Development Services and Deliverology Directorate (CDSDD), was restructured in 2013. The major objective of the office was to enhance the performances of students and academic staffs so as to attain quality education. To realize this, the office is working collaboratively with man power in academic programs and administrative offices in order to achieve the targets set by MoE. The very impotent works of CDSDD is to attain quality education working rigorously for enhanced teaching-learning process, instructors’ capacity building, students’ career and soft skills developments, and the applications of practical skills to make the graduates competent in the labor market. The detail activities of the office include the following.

  •  Communication with MoE on innovative ideas, trainings, approaches, evaluations, materials, assessment, and policy issues, etc to realize the mission and vision of the university.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders like InfoMind Solution PlC and conducting  tracer studies, annual job expo, graduate employability training, instructors capacity building ’trainings, and to enhance other  key teaching-learning activities.
  •   Working closely with college career service and career counselors, top management bodies, deans, directors, coordinators and other academic units of the University to achieve the strategic activities.
  • Introducing new procedures and approaches in teaching-learning and offering trainings to advance the professional career of instructors and career development of the learners.
  • Implementing innovative ideas and approaches from planning to implementation stages so as to deliver the activities and achieve of the expected outcomes.
  • Giving training to some Haramaya Cluster universities in the areas of tracer studies, pedagogical knowledge (HDP), language skills (ELIC)& other teaching-learning activities.
  • Providing consultations and trainings for academic and nonacademic staffs that are working directly or indirectly on the area of the strategic activities of the office.
  • Conducting baseline and needs assessments surveys as means to identify gaps and to design capacity building trainings, consultative and collaborative workshop, and career events for further improvement.
  • Conducting seminars and consultative workshops with internal and external stakeholders: Industry University Linkage Offices, MoE, AAQA, Ministry of labor and Skill,MoE, American Embassy, Ministry of labor and skill, British Council, Elsewedy Electric Cables Ethiopia and other relevant partner organizations to get the way forward.
  • Reporting performance achievements of the office to HU Planning Office and promoting the office activities via annual research review days, university community days, university web pages, magazines, research briefs, and other possible platforms.
  •   Facilitating, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the implementation of the activities and the impacts of the strategic activities of the office.

To realize its mission and vision, the CDSDD works on the seven strategies listed from 1 to 7 below with brief subtopics.

1. Improving Teacher Assessment

• Revising teachers evaluation checklist
• Awareness creation among involved stakeholder
• Internal evaluation system in place
• External evaluation system in place
• Validating performance report
• Introducing rewards and incentives

2. Improving Student Assessments

• Implementation of the continuous assessment tools
• Introducing practices of external assessment for students
• Giving trainings on continuous assessment
• Putting in place automation system for continuous assessment

3. Improving Teaches Continuous Professional Development (HDP, ELIP)

• Preparing and revising guideline and standards for HDP and ELIP trainings
• Revising and customizing HDP training materials
• Giving short terms and long-term training on HDP and ELIP improvements
• Orienting and leading Haramaya Cluster Universities HDP and ELIP improvements

4. Improving English Language for Students

• Strengthening ELIC with facilities and training materials.
• Preparing materials and guideline for offering skill-based trainings
• Giving trainings for students on four basic language skills, sub skills and research method.
• Forming clubs enhancing informal and non forma learning through creative works
• Evaluating the trainees performance and conducting impact assessments

5. Providing Career Service

• Establishing and strengthening Career Center
• Organizing Career Week with different sectorial offices and industries (stakeholders)
• Giving trainings for students and teachers on issues of career service and training.
• Conducting post-training assessments

6. Improving Internship Program
• Conducting University-Industry Linkage workshops
• Reviewing and Devising internship curriculum and guideline
• Giving orientation for interns and mentors as helpful means for placements
• Supervising and monitoring students placement and work situations at industries
• Conducting assessments on interns and industries to get feedback

7. Conducting Tracer Studies

• Establishing tracer study instruments and methods
• Giving awareness raising trainings to internship stakeholders
• Conducting tracer study
• Analyzing tracer study data
• Providing feedback to relevant departments
