Opening the workshop, Dr. Milkyas Hailu Tesfaye, Director of the ICT Directorate, emphasized that the University website is more than an information portal it is Haramaya University’s digital identity and one of its most strategic communication platforms. He noted that prospective students, researchers, development partners, alumni, government institutions, and the wider public increasingly rely on the University’s website as their first source of information.

“The quality of our website reflects the quality of our institution. Every college, institute, directorate, and administrative unit has a shared responsibility to ensure that the University’s digital presence accurately represents our achievements, services, and academic excellence,” he said.

During the workshop, participants explored several key areas, including the strategic importance of Haramaya University’s digital presence and the implementation of the Distributed Website Content Management Policy. Discussions also covered website governance structures, institutional accountability, and the roles and responsibilities of content owners, editors, reviewers, and publishers. In addition, participants examined website content standards, quality assurance measures, and the workflows for content submission, review, approval, and publishing. The session further addressed the establishment and operation of College Web Content Units (CWCUs), shared best practices for managing news, events, research outputs, academic programs, and institutional information, and included practical hands-on exercises in website content management.
