Haramaya University Donates Medical Supplies to Maya City
Haramaya University has donated a consignment of medical supplies to Maya City, reinforcing its commitment to community health and multi-sectoral development.
The donation, made possible through international and local partnerships, marks another milestone in the university’s ongoing support for public health institutions across the Oromia region.
The medical supplies were imported from the United States through Haramaya University’s collaboration with Project C.U.R.E., Lemmif Development Association, members of the Ethiopian diaspora, and Ethiopian Airlines. The initiative has facilitated the distribution of essential medical equipment to 45 health facilities across various zones in Oromia.
Speaking at the handover ceremony with Maya city, Dr. Jemal Yousuf, President of Haramaya University, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership. “This effort reflects our shared vision to strengthen healthcare delivery in underserved communities. The coordination between our partners, from collection to free transportation, has been instrumental in ensuring these supplies reach the facilities that need them most,” he said.
Dr. Jemal officially handed over the medical supplies designated for Maya City to the Mayor, Dr. Efrah Wazir. The Mayor expressed deep appreciation for the university’s continued support, noting its contributions not only in health but also in education, agriculture, and other key sectors. “Haramaya University remains a vital partner in our city’s development journey,” she remarked.
The city administration extended its gratitude to the university for its impactful role in improving the lives of residents through sustained institutional engagement.
Over the past year alone, Haramaya University and its partners have facilitated the distribution of medical supplies valued at nearly 1.2 billion birr to government health institutions, highlighting the university’s leadership in promoting public welfare through strategic collaboration.
