Haramaya University has embarked on a collaborative project with NEDAMCO Africa, a Netherlands-based organization specializing in climate change and water management, to promote the adoption of drip irrigation technology among Ethiopian farmers. This partnership aims to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and water scarcity on agricultural productivity.
Dr. Yisahak Yusuf, Vice President of Research and Community Partnerships at Haramaya University, emphasized the university’s commitment to serving the community through collaborations with various organizations both domestically and internationally. He highlighted the recent agreement with NEDAMCO Africa to focus on drip irrigation technology as a crucial solution to address the challenges posed by climate change.
NEDAMCO Africa brings to the table cutting-edge drip irrigation technology that is highly efficient and requires minimal electricity, making it an ideal solution for regions facing water shortages and energy constraints. Dr. Yisahak explained that the implementation of this technology is essential for modernizing agriculture and ensuring sustainable food production in the face of climate-induced challenges.
The partnership between Haramaya University and NEDAMCO Africa is expected to yield significant results, with a memorandum of understanding anticipated to be signed within the next three weeks. Mr. Zewder Wurfbein, Deputy General Manager of NEDAMCO Africa, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, recognizing Haramaya University’s longstanding reputation as one of Ethiopia’s premier educational institutions.
