Haramaya University has partnered with ETH Zürich (Switzerland) for a pilot project on “Women’s Empowerment and Agroecology.”
The project, funded by ETH for Development (ETH4D), will run from October 1, 2024, to September 1, 2025.
The partnership encompasses a range of activities, including joint research, student exchange, and participation in research seminars. The project aims to assess the status of women’s empowerment in Ethiopia, analyze the relationship between women’s empowerment and agroecology, and evaluate the contribution of women’s empowerment to household food and nutrition security.
Dr. Muluken Gezahegn Wordofa, the Project Coordinator, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating that it aligns with Haramaya University’s commitment to promoting sustainable development and gender equality.
The agreement was officially signed by Dr. Jemal Yousuf Hassen, President of Haramaya University, and Prof. Dr. Johanna Jacobi from ETH Zürich. Additionally, the Oromia Irrigation and Pastoralist Development Bureau is a key partner in this project.
This partnership represents a significant advancement in strengthening the bond between the two institutions and encourages collaboration with organizations in developing nations to tackle global challenges.
Prof. Jacobi’s previous visit to Haramaya University in April 2024 laid the groundwork for this partnership by exploring opportunities for collaboration in agroecology education, training, and research.
