Haramaya University Delegation Participates in QS Africa Forum 2026
Haramaya University delegation participated in the QS Africa Forum 2026, held in Addis Ababa under the theme “Skills, Systems and Sustainable Futures.” The QS Africa Forum is a continental higher education forum that focuses on skills, systems, sustainable futures, and the transformation of African universities. The forum featured prominent speakers from government, continental higher education associations, universities, QS, and international education organizations.

Haramaya University was represented by Dr. Muluken Gezahegn Wordofa, and Mr. Mohammed Aman. The forum brought together university leaders, policymakers, researchers, students, industry partners, and international higher education stakeholders to exchange ideas on the future of African higher education and the need for quality, relevant, and future-ready learning systems.

Key discussions addressed institutional capacity and leadership; rankings, reputation, and global visibility; artificial intelligence and the future of higher education; skills, employability, and lifelong learning; research, innovation, and societal impact; and talent mobility and international partnerships. Featured sessions included the Sub-Saharan Africa Rankings Deep Dive; Building Institutional Capacity: Leadership, Infrastructure and Funding; Brain Drain or Brain Circulation; and Mobility that Builds Equitable Partnerships for African Higher Education.
Haramaya University’s participation was significant in view of its ongoing collaboration with the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), which has partnered with the University since 2023 on the research initiative “African Women Empowerment for Agricultural Sustainability.” During the forum, the HU delegation engaged in roundtable discussions with senior UAEU officials, representatives of the UAE Embassy in Addis Ababa, QS officials, and prospective partners. UAEU officials acknowledged the successful collaboration with Haramaya University and expressed commitment to supporting additional joint projects expected to begin in the coming months. A major highlight was the official recognition awarded by UAEU to Dr. Jemal Yousuf, President of Haramaya University, in appreciation of the partnership between the two institutions.

The HU delegation also explored new opportunities, including signing a memorandum of understanding with American International University – Bangladesh and securing an invitation from Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University to participate in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings Results and Award Ceremony scheduled to take place in September 2026 in Baku.

Through its delegation, HU strengthened its engagement in continental higher education dialogue, reaffirmed strategic partnerships, and opened pathways for further collaboration, innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable institutional development.
