Haramaya University Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Medicines Optimisation Innovation Centre (MOIC), Northern Ireland
Haramaya University has entered a strategic partnership with the Medicines Optimisation Innovation Centre (MOIC) in Northern Ireland, marking a significant milestone to advance medicines optimisation practices in both Ethiopia and Northern Ireland.
This collaboration will leverage joint projects, knowledge exchange, and capacity building initiatives.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishes a commitment from both institutions to maintain open communication channels aimed at identifying and pursuing collaborative opportunities in medicines optimisation.
Key areas of focus include responding to funding calls, facilitating the transfer and exchange of knowledge, engaging key stakeholders, and conducting joint dissemination activities.
MOIC and Haramaya University’s College of Health and Medical Sciences (CHMS) will foster staff collaboration to achieve shared goals. Both organizations are dedicated to proactively initiating discussions to explore emerging opportunities within the field.
This partnership aligns closely with Haramaya University’s mission “to produce competent health and medical science graduates through quality education, conduct academically rigorous and socially meaningful research, and provide community service to the region and the country.” It also supports the university’s vision to “RISE to Excellence: Envisioning to be a World-Class Health Research, Education, and Service Center by 2045.”
For MOIC, the collaboration embodies their core principle of building a culture of partnership and collaboration. Mike Scott, Director of MOIC, stated, “This MOU represents a powerful opportunity to share best practices in medicines optimisation and to build sustainable clinical pharmacy capacity in Ethiopia.”
Ammas Siraj Mohammed, lecturer and researcher in clinical pharmacy at Haramaya University, added, “Partnering with MOIC perfectly aligns with our commitment to excellence in health education and clinical pharmacy. This collaboration will strengthen our capacity to deliver high-impact, evidence-based healthcare improvements through education, research, and service.”
