Haramaya University Participates in IMPACT-HE Capacity Building Workshop and Leadership Forum in Nairobi, Kenya
Project members and focal person from Haramaya University and representative from Grant Management Directorate participated in the IMPACT-HE Project Capacity Building Workshop and the IMPACT-HE Leadership and Stakeholder Forum, held from 4–7 May 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya.
IMPACT-HE is an Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) project, co-funded by the European Union, dedicated to strengthening the role of African universities in international development cooperation.
Dr. Jemal Yousuf, President of Haramaya University participated in the Leadership and Stakeholder Forum. The forum convened university vice‑chancellors from Ethiopia and Kenya, representatives of European funding agencies, continental higher education networks, Kenyan government officials, and regional policy actors to discuss the future of higher education cooperation across Africa.
The Capacity Building Workshop was attended by Dr. Deribachew Bekana, Dr. Milkiyas Hailu and Dr. Dinaol Belina. The workshop focused on strengthening participants’ practical skills in international project coordination, and institutional partnerships to enhance global collaboration and university internationalization.
The training is delivered in a hybrid format and will continue online over the coming five months, covering seven modules such as establishing a central unit, soft skills and personal competence, writing convincing proposals, budget preparation, legal documentation, project management and reporting, and dissemination and communication.
The workshop also provided a platform for peer learning, reflection, and collaboration, allowing participants to exchange experiences, address institutional challenges related to international cooperation projects, and build capacity in international project management and development cooperation in higher education.
