Haramaya University Hosts Info Session on UK’s Chevening Scholarship Program
Haramaya University hosted an awareness and information-sharing session on the UK Government’s Chevening Scholarship scheme to empower academic staff and students to pursue fully funded master’s degree programs in the United Kingdom.
Held under the theme “Empowering Future Leaders,” the session took place at the College of Health and Medical Sciences. The forum aimed to provide comprehensive guidance to the university community regarding application procedures, eligibility criteria, and the transformative academic and professional opportunities offered by the scholarship.
Representing the British Embassy in Ethiopia, Wudassie Teklemichael delivered a detailed orientation on the Chevening program, outlining the essential steps and qualifications required for a successful application.
The event also featured inspiring personal reflections from Chevening alumni and researchers at the Hararghe Health Research Center, Dr. Bersabeh Mekasha, Dr. Fikeraddis Solomon, and Dr. Selamawit Admasu. The alumni shared their academic journeys in the UK, highlighting how the program advanced their leadership skills, expanded their professional networks, and enriched their research capabilities.
Speakers emphasized that the Chevening Scholarship offers Haramaya University scholars and faculty a unique opportunity to gain advanced expertise and contribute meaningfully to national development upon their return.
