Research Seminar Explores Synergies between Research and Farming in Ethiopia
A research seminar was convened at Haramaya University to examine strategies for enhancing the collaboration between researchers and Ethiopian farmers.
The seminar also delved into the progress made towards integrating livestock systems into Ethiopia’s Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE).
Renowned experts, Dr. Mark Andrew Bell and Dr. Shimeles Eshete Wase, delivered insightful presentations. Dr. Bell, an international research and extension specialist from UC Davis and the University of California Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (UCANR), shared his expertise, while Dr. Wase, a Global Methane Hub Project Researcher Program Manager from the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, provided valuable insights.
A diverse group of university faculty members and researchers from various colleges, including Dr. Yishak Yusuf, Vice President of Research and Community Development at Haramaya University, participated in the seminar.
The seminar focused on two key questions: “How can researchers more effectively support farmers?” and “Is Ethiopia making progress in integrating livestock systems into its Climate Change Resilient Green Economy (CRGE)?” Research papers were presented on relevant topics, followed by engaging discussions that incorporated the insights and questions of the participants. The research presenters provided thoughtful responses and explanations to address the queries raised.
