Haramaya University & RUFORUM Project
The partnership is currently driving the flagship TAGDev 2.0 program, a 10-year collaborative initiative spanning from 2023 to 2033 in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.
The relationship between Haramaya University and RUFORUM spans over nearly two decades, positioning HU as a critical hub in an African network of 175 universities across 40 countries. Founded on a mutual vision to modernize African higher education, this alliance bridges academic theory with practical, community-centered development.
The partnership transforms traditional agricultural education by building regional academic mobility, upgrading institutional governance, and embedding smallholder farmers directly into the university's research ecosystem. Through mutual collaboration, HU leverages sub-Saharan funding, hosts regional academic delegations, and acts as a leading center for climate-smart agriculture and agribusiness innovation in the Horn of Africa.
