Haramaya University conducted the 66th round of students’ graduation ceremony on October 30, 2021 at the University’s Academy of Sports Sciences.

A total of 4,075 students, who were able to conclude their courses in different fields of study, made it to the graduation.

According to Prof. Mengitu Urge, Vice President for Academic Affairs, the University has graduated more than 4000 students. Among these  29 PhD;  383 MsC, 18 Specialist in health specialties ; 227 postgraduate – Diploma graduates  and   3418 in undergraduate degree (BA/BSc) students  of which 1284 or 31.5 percent of the graduates are women.

H.E. Muferihat Kamil Ahmed, Ministry of Labor and Skills Development of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE), who was the guest of honor at the graduation ceremony, forwarded her congratulatory remarks and said that despite the current problems the country is facing, the problem will create an opportunity to strengthen unity and close the gaps.

“The current crisis in the country is a temporary one, perhaps to strengthen our unity, to restore what we have damaged, and to take appropriate action,” she said.

She called on the graduates to serve the people sincerely as they join/when the go to work and should be ready to serve the country with the knowledge they have acquired.

On the occasion of the graduation ceremony, Dr. Jamal Yusuf, President of Haramaya University, said that the University has been conducting community-based research in addition to teaching and learning since its inception. The University is playing a significant role in the country’s growth and prosperity, the President added.

The President said the University is conducting community problem solving research, adding that 85 research projects have been completed, 280 are in progress and 27 technologies have been developed to reach 45,000 members of the society.

In general, Haramaya University has produced more than 115,000 educated Manpower in the Ethiopian education system, Dr. Jamal said.

Awards were given to students with outstanding academic excellence.
