Research extension activities
Crop Technologies
Crop technologies demonstrated at FTCs include different varieties of cereals (like maize, sorghum, wheat, and teff), pulses (like Faba been, filed peas, and common been), vegetables (potato, sweet potato, carrot, garlic, and shallot), and oil crops (linseed, sesame and groundnut). Technologies related to planting methods, fertilizer application, disease and pest control, and other agronomic practices are also demonstrated along different varieties of these crops. Demonstrations are usually made in the University’s research stations, Farmers’ Training Centers (FTCs), Fields of Farmers Cooperatives/Unions, and on fields of individual farmers.
Livestock Technologies
Livestock technologies demonstrated at different levels include improved dairy breeds, crossbred sheep and goats, improved forage crops, chicken breeds, portable poultry houses, and modern honey bee keeping, among others. These have been demonstrated at FTCs, research stations, and farms of individual farmers.
Other Technologies
In addition to crop and livestock related technologies, technologies disseminated to the community include forage-cereal intercropping, drip and sprinkler irrigation technologies, small-scale feed choppers, energy saving improved stoves, rehabilitation of degraded lands, seed storage technologies, and many other.
