Background
Babile research station is located in Babile town, Eastern Ethiopia. It is 50 km far away from the main campus, 32km far away from Harar and 330m far away from the main road of Babile town. The station is located 9o13’11.7’’ N latitude and 42o19’26.2’’ E longitude and at altitude of 1616 meter above sea level. It is serving as lowland oil crops sorghum and maize, and oil crops research station. The station has a vision to become a center of excellence in Lowland oil crops research center in Ethiopia. The research station covers more than 6.65 hectares of land. The station receives annual rainfall of 759 mm. The mean temperature of the station is 15.05 °C with average maximum and minimum temperatures of 20.22 °C and 9.89 °C, respectively. The soil of the experimental site is a well-drained deep alluvial with a sub-soil stratified with sandy clay loam. The station has a total of 20 permanent workers to facilitate and support the research activities in the research station.
