Monitoring and Evaluation of Seed Multiplication Activities Conducted at Gurawa Research Station Haramaya University
A team of experts from the Directorate of Research Centers and Facilities Management, led by Director Mr. Ibsa Aliyyii, conducted a monitoring and evaluation visit to Gurawa Research Station of Haramaya University on September 25, 2026.

The team assessed the current status and performance of the station’s seed multiplication activities. At present, the station is multiplying Kingbird wheat and Bubu and Gudane potato varieties on approximately 3 hectares of land.

Despite the late onset and erratic distribution of rainfall during the current cropping season, the seed multiplication activities at the station were found to be performing excellently. The monitoring and evaluation team highly appreciated the commitment and efforts of the station’s management and staff for achieving such encouraging results.

The ongoing activities are expected to contribute significantly to Haramaya University’s efforts to ensure a sustainable and affordable supply of improved seeds to the local farming community.

Gurawa Research Station also implements a double-cropping system and is expected to produce approximately 500 quintals of potato and wheat seed during the current cropping year.

As part of the visit, the team also briefly visited the Kurfa Challe Livestock Improvement Center, where they held discussions with staff members regarding the center’s activities and ongoing work.
