Background
The Department of Statistics was established in the year 2008/09 academic year, organized under the Collage of Computing and Informatics. With the objectives of providing statistical trainings, research and consultancy services, it is one of the fast growing departments of the university. The department now has two programs: the BSc degree undergraduate program in Statistics and the post-graduate program in Econometrics. The department has competent staff members and resources.
Objectives of the department
The Department of Statistics aims at promoting statistical education in Ethiopia.
It particularly aims to:
- Train qualified graduates in Statistics that is adaptable with problem solving capacity;
- Develop critical statistical reasoning, with emphasis on the development of computational, mathematical and communication skills (oral and written);
- Give training in statistical software and statistical literacy;
- Provide statistical consultancy services; and
- Participate and lead socioeconomic and other studies where statistical methods are applicable.
