Haramaya University Administrative board has conferred the rank of Full Professorship in Veterinary clinical pathology for Dr. Tesfaheywet Zeryehun.
Dr. Tesfaheywet Zeryehun is a fellow in College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Haramaya University (HrU), which he has been serving since 2004. Tesfaheywet was born on 10 June 1980 in Gulele in Addis Ababa, where he grew up and completed his primary and secondary education. In September 1997, he joined Addis Ababa University and studied Veterinary Medicine, in which he earned Degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in July 2004. Soon after graduation, he was employed by Haramaya University as a Lecturer in CVM. After serving for about three years, he went to University Putra Malaysia to pursue his MSc in Hematology and Clinical Pathology, with a financial support from the NUFFIC funded project. He graduated with the degree of Master of Science in Hematology and Clinical Pathology in June 2010.
Completing his study, he came back to Ethiopia and rejoined HrU, where he has been discharging his professional responsibilities in the learning-teaching, research, and community service engagements since July 2010. For example, he has offered various courses to BVSc, DVM, and MSc students. The consistent high Student Evaluation Score always had been a testimony for his high-quality teaching. Moreover, he has supervised more than 38 DVM theses, 15 MSc theses and a PhD dissertation. He has also coordinated some international collaborative projects from which staff members, post-graduate students, the surrounding community, and the University have benefited. Dr. Tesfaheywet’s scholarly works are prodigious and timely, with significant contributions to further developments of the discipline. To date, he has published more than 45 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, and authored some book chapters.
By no means limited to authorships, Dr. Tesfaheywet has been a member of advisory and editorial boards of various journals and a reviewer of many articles submitted for publication in reputable national and international journals. Furthermore, he has served as an examiner and evaluator of MSc curricula, DVM and MSc theses, research and projects from other Ethiopian Universities. For his fruitful academic endeavors, Dr. Tesfaheywet was awarded the 2019 Faculty Exchange Program at the Michigan State University, which could help him further develop his instructional, laboratory and research skills.
In addition to his professional services, Dr. Tesfaheywet has been playing several administrative roles. These include his services as Animal Health Research Coordinator of CVM, Department Head of Parasitology and Pathology, Program Coordinator of the then Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Editorial Manager for the East African Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (EAJVASc), and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of CVM. He has also effectively served as a member of and led several committees established to handle and deliberate on various assignments. Furthermore, he has been actively rendering community services by participating in, coordinating and supervising problem solving community-centered initiatives, campaigns, training and programs.
In general, Dr. Tesfaheywet’s contributions to his college, the University, and the veterinary discipline and profession are nothing short of being exemplary. The Senate and the Board of Haramaya University are pleased to extend a congratulatory massage to Dr. Tesfaheywet on his new promotion to full professorship.
