Safety Food for Food Security and Public Health

Build an interdisciplinary, prestigious career in food safety, zoonoses, public health and infection control across all food stages, with the intention of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Programme is Designed to Produce Problem-Solving Experts

Growing human populations demand safe, quality, sufficient and varied food. On the other hand, food production, handling and supply are interlinked and complex processes for different items. These foods are also challenged with infectious and non-infectious hazards coping with climate change and challenging human health. Thus, this program is designed to skill individuals in tackling those challenges. Candidates are supported with analytic theory of science, practice in relevant state-of-the-art labs, the use of artificial intelligence (AI), and the ability to communicate findings widely for global consumption and policy direction.

The curriculum consists of coursework, a seminar on food safety and zoonoses, dissertation and associated activities. The coursework is designed into a one-year program broken down into two semesters. With even course distribution, the seminar in Semester I focuses on food safety while Semester II focuses on zoonoses. Two elective courses — Food Processing Technology and Ecosystem, and Food Animal Production and Health — are offered, with at least one elective course mandatory. The remaining years are devoted to the dissertation (doctoral research).
