Background

Department of Cooperatives, since the inauguration (1994 e. c), 1010 students in the regular program and around 550 in the summer program were graduated in both cooperatives business management and cooperatives accounting and auditing stream.

General Objective

The objective of the department is to produce a qualified graduate for the development of cooperatives in Ethiopia.

In this regard, the department has two study streams namely Cooperatives business management and cooperatives accounting and auditing.

Specific Objectives

  • To impart theoretical and practical knowledge in organizing and managing the resources of cooperative societies.
  • To produce competent and skilled manpower for Cooperatives and cooperatives related business.
  • To conduct need based and problem-solving research activities.
  • To take part in community engagement activities around Eastern part of Ethiopia
  • To induce strong cooperatives movement and revolution in the country.

Vision

To see enough cooperative professionals, training institutions and strong cooperative movement in the country in 2025

Further Education & Career Development options in the field

It has masters program at Ambo University, Mekele University and Hawassa University in Cooperatives Business Management, Cooperatives Marketing, Cooperatives Accounting and Auditing and Cooperative Leadership specializations.Other related field like Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Accounting and Finance, Social Work, Development Studies, Agribusiness and Supply Chain Management etc.
