1. Rationale

In the 21st century things are changing fast. Technology, education, transportation, means of communication, heath, life styles and extra, there is hardly anything in life that is not changing. Media are at the heart in our daily life path. The role media plays a vital role in the social, economic, and democratic development of a given country is unquestionable. The Department Journalism and Communication aims to provide students and/or trainees with a profound understanding of the science journalism and communication demands from numerous perspectives.

The curriculum currently in use, was harmonized before seven (7) years and desires to be adjusted parallel to the era of media science demands. The courses are needed to be accustomed in order to make the teaching learning process conducive for both the teachers and students to be in a position of competencies. Beside the updates, the curriculum revision enables the process of reconciling the modularization delivery method with the nature of each course. It is, therefore, the need for conducting revision of former curriculum to come up with up to date media and related systems that has been occurring in the world. This might help the academic and media industry societies by providing latest version of educational and training policy.

2. Admission Requirements

Generally the program admits students that have been recruited at a national level through the ministry of education. Students who have successfully completed the courses offered in freshman program for one year are admitted to the program. Thus students background must be familiar with reasonable English language mastery can join the program. Moreover, interested applicants who had diploma in any field from a recognized institution can be admitted as advance standing students.

3. Graduation Requirement

Students will be eligible for graduation upon:

  • Successful completion of all courses in major and supportive courses with a minimum of CGPA of 2.00 in the overall 176 credit points, and
  • Having no “F” grade scored in any of the courses taken.

4. Degree Nomenclature

English: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism and Communication
