Background

Haramaya University freshman program directorate was established in 2012 EC following a change introduced by the government of Ethiopia in its education policy. As per the policy’s roadmap, freshman students are required to begin their University stay with a two semesters (one academic year) freshman program taking courses that prepare them for study at undergraduate level.

Haramaya University management responded to this change by establishing the directorate that manages and administers academic affairs of freshman students. Currently, the directorate is constituted of a director, two associate directors, three coordinators, registrar head, quality assurance and academic enhancement experts and other supportive staffs.

Mission

Preparing freshman students with the necessary competency that enables them to continue their study at undergraduate level. 

Vision

The freshman program directorate sets it vision in a way that enables it to decisively contribute to the fulfilment of Haramaya University’s vision of striving to be one of the leading African Universities with international reputation by 2025. Therefore, the directorate sets its vision to be

“Making HrU to be a nationally and internationally sought University by freshman students for its quality education and services.”
